Improving your physical, mental/emotional, social, and spiritual health is critical in healing and preventing chronic conditions. When I discuss the factors that contribute to inflammation, begin to think about where your own deficiencies might be—it may be the most productive place for you to start with your own healing.

Fact: 70%-80% of you immune system lays in the gut. When immune cells are activated through the gut, they release inflammatory molecules that travel throughout the body and cause inflammation in our joints, skin, blood vessels, brain – everywhere! What we put in our mouths can either help us or harm us, improving or activating our immune system.
Proper nutrition, with an anti-inflammatory diet, not only keeps your digestive system happy but also regulates your glucose and stabilizing insulin (a storage hormone secreted by the pancreas to help regulate the levels of glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream)—managing your insulin resistance. To put it simply, insulin resistance refers to the body’s diminished ability to respond to insulin and can result in rapid and premature aging and can cause strokes, dementia, heart disease, and cancer.
Nutritional deficiencies often interfere with the healing process. Adding certain supplements to the diet can expedite healing by supporting the immune system and restoring the body to health and balance.
We live in a world full of toxins, mostly invisible. With regular exposure, toxins can slowly accumulate in our bodies, placing a heavy burden on the liver, the organ that is responsible for removing it. When it is overwhelmed and can’t eliminate the toxins, the liver tends to store it, unable to do its job in helping to decrease inflammation and thus further increasing it. Toxins lower immunity, increasing the vulnerability to autoimmunity, cancer, and blood sugar issues; they make the body numb to insulin and leptin, increasing insulin resistance, preventing one from losing weight, and leading to heart disease, diabetes, and strokes.
The Four Big S’s: Stress, Sleep, Social Health, and Spirituality
Stress contributes significantly to inflammation. In particular, stress taxes the immune system and chronically increases the levels of cortisol, a hormone that is released to prepare us to respond to threatening situations. This leads to inflammation and its accompanying diseases and ailments.
While we sleep, our body doesn’t consume much energy, leaving more energy for the body to remove toxins, make hormones, and fight infections. We can literally heal in our sleep!
Love heals! Having positive social relationships that leave you feeling loved releases hormones into the bloodstream, strengthens your immune system, and improves your overall health and healing.
Negative spiritual energy is related to increased stress, more depression, and a weakened immune system, increasing inflammation.
